| In his childhood Doctor Valnet was close to plants and discovered their medicinal qualities. He marvelled at these natural laboratories which produced more beneficial substances than any laboratory built by man. This passion for nature lead him to be wary of all that is artificial and to dedicate his whole life to the curing of illness. In the age when chemistry was triumphant, he belonged to the far sighted minority which knew of and offered another way, traditional medicine. |

Jean Valnet’s roots lie between Besançon and Montbéliard, an undulating and naturally verdant region, robust and generous like the men who come from there.
In 1920, the year of his birth, the countrymen already knew the virtues of plants and natural remedies which they used frequently. The young Jean Valnet was impressed by this empirical knowledge with its distant origins, transmitted from generation to generation. At 14 he witnessed an event which influenced him deeply. A farm worker was injured on the cheek by a blow from a horn: to the great astonishment of Jean Valnet, he stopped the infection and achieved the healing of his wound in record time thanks to a dressing made from a spiders web followed by a poultice made from various plants. In 1934 no one in the world of medicine knew the substances responsible for such a remarkable effect. it wasn’t until 45 years later that a scientific study in Peru discovered antibiotic substances in spiders webs......

JJean Valnet related that he must have got his vocation as a doctor from his grandmother, a midwife and herbalist. During her frequent visits to attend births she successfully healed many people with plants that she knew well and often gathered herself.
In 1940, when he was in his second year in medicine, he found himself as a student of a professor who taught him the therapeutic properties of plants and the art of authoritative prescribing. In the course of the next 5 years, he followed his medical studies and amassed diplomas: forensic medicine and psychiatry, microbiology and hygiene, colonial medicine, occupational medicine.to summary
In 1944 he joined the evacuation hospitals numbers 412 and 501 in Germany, as a surgical assistant. In 1945 he submitted a thesis on military surgery and obtained his doctorate of medicine. He then practised medicine in various military colleges notably the Ecole Spécilale Militaire at St. Cyr. Next, from 1950 to 1953, Dr. Jean Valnet, army doctor with the rank of captain, was surgeon at the No. 1 Surgical Outpost at Tonkin. His diagnostic reliability, his skill and his speed, his novel treatments, his vitality and his good humour saved and comforted innumerable lives. On his return from Indo-China, from 1953 to 1959, Dr Jean Valnet was named by the Army Ministry as regular doctor successively to the Secretary of State for War, the Chief of Staff of the Army and the office of the Army Minister. From then on, he started to experiment seriously with Essential Oils.to summary
When Dr. Jean Valnet left the army in 1959 he had the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and had gained numerous distinctions and decorations rewarding his courage and medical efforts: military officer of the Legion of Honour, holder of the Croix de guerre 39-45 et TOE (War Cross 39-45 and overseas operations), Croix du Combattant (Combatant’s Cross), Croix du Combattant Volontaire (Voluntary Combatant’s Cross), Croix du Combattant Volontaire de la Résistance (Resistance Volunteer’s Cross) and the Médaille des Français Libres (Free French Medal). He now practised medicine in civilian life and dedicated himself entirely to the practise and study of natural therapies (herbal medicine, aromatherapy....). He was the first to determine the dosage for Essential Oils. he is considered to be the father of modern aromatherapy which he brought to the attention of doctors and the public when, in 1964, he published his book “AROMATHERAPIE-TRAITMENT DES MALADIES PAR LES ESSENCES DE PLANTES” - Aromatherapy-the Treatment of Diseases with Plant Essences, since reissued regularly.to summary
In the course of the following years he wrote other works which specified his conception of holistic medicine founded completely on natural therapeutics, which work together effectively without side effects.
In 1967 he published “THERAPEUTIQUE JOURNALIERE PAR LEGUMES, LES FRUITS ET LES CEREALES” (DAILY THERAPY BY MEANS OF VEGETABLES, FRUIT AND CEREALS), in 1970 “DOCTEUR NATURE” (NATURAL DOCTOR) and in 1972 “PHYTOTHERAPIE-TRAITEMENT DES MALADIES PAR LES PLANTES” (HERBAL MEDICINE-TREATMENT OF DISEASES WITH PLANTS). The success of his books is such that they have been translated into English, German, Romanian, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. Since 1960 he has presided over numerous congresses on herbal medicine and aromatherapy with Professors and members of the Academy of Medicine as assessors. Several scientific reviews have regularily published articles about his activities. He has held several conferences within university faculties, he is sought by radio and television, both in France and abroad, to participate in programmes about herbal medicine and aromatherapy. In 1971 he founded the first society for studies and research into aromatherapy and herbal medicine and in 1981 he founded the French College of Herbal and Aroma Therapies and Country Medicine which, amongst other activities, offers training to students and to doctors and organises seminars.
In 1973 he developed, with Dr. Girault the aromatogram, a test which is designed to determine which essential oils are most effective against which infection.
Dr Jean Valnet is fighting for herbal medicine, aromatherapy and other natural therapies. Blessed with vitality and courage which animates him and also with his scientific rigour and his unusual medical experience, his knowledge has won recognition of his views despite those who mock him, his detractors and the interests of the chemical industry.to summary our products Translation by Steve Huddy
