DON’T REDUCE IT ALL TO GENETIC FACTORS
Every illness consists of a predisposition (genetic, for example) and environmental influences. Amongst these predominant influences one finds food and pollution. The start of an illness can be summarised as follows: Innate predisposition (genetic) + acquired predisposition (food, pollution) + precipitating influence (stress, grief, etc.) = illness. Our bodies are naturally protected against attack. Viruses, bacteria, microscopic fungi, pollutants are neutralised by an astonishing immune system which releases the means to resist each of them. A functioning immune system protects us against all forms of illness.TAKE YOUIR HEALTH IN YOUR HANDS!
At one time one attributed, in a simplistic fashion, a leading role to micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria) in the development of almost all pathologies.
Medicine, under the influence of Pasteur, had its scapegoat: the microbe. Today, on account of the progress in genetics, this science has taken refuge behind another dogma: genetic predisposition.
In these 2 cases, these theories place human beings as facing illnesses against which they can do nothing... Another medical scare will be the chosen way to start genetic manipulations to stop morbid scourges such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, aids...This modern medical science is as arrogant as that of the 50’s and 60’s
which predicted the eradication of all illnesses in the year 2000. That said, we actually assist the development of illnesses, cancers, auto-immune, viral, allergic, the return of tuberculosis and venereal diseases, the appearance of other forms such as mad cow disease and haemorrhagic fevers. The microbes (like Koch’s bacillus) produce resistance!
SUPPLEMENTS BASED ON ANTIOXIDANTS
It is time to lose our illusions that medical science can good health.
Certainly, it is acknowledged as an indispensable tool for a comfortable life (example: Aids therapies), but it must above all teach us to be responsible
regarding the attitude to have so that we can maintain good health.Faced with genetic predispositions, psychological factors, nutrition, external influences (bacteria, viruses, chemical poisons in the environment), the individual can and must adapt himself...
It is while there is a failure in adapting that illness develops.
VITAMINS: VALUABLE ANTIOXYDANTS
A survey supported by the Second National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey on 12,000 people in 1994, revealed that on the day of the inquiry 17% had not eaten vegetables, 41% fruits, while only 1/4 had consumed a fruit or vegetable rich in Vitamins A or C and only 10% had eaten the recommended 5 daily servings of fruit and vegetables (source JAMA No. 303). The recent inquiries conducted by the media have equally observed that the diets and healthy ways of life that had been adopted were very quickly abandoned, hence the importance of supplements Because, stressing that the fact is that the decisive factor in the onset of an illness is oxidative stress. This state leads to an overproduction of free radicals, substances highly toxic to oxygen and which cause damage and cellular mutation (cancer, degenerative diseases). Rapidly the cellular enzymes are overwhelmed by an avalanche of free radicals, there is then a loss of function of micronutrients which protect us from the effects of these free radicals.Fruits, vegetables and cereals (especially soya) are bursting with ferocious antioxidants. Once absorbed, they spread through the bodies tissues and fluids where they present a solid resistance. As soon as the process of illness begins, you must supply the cells with all the antioxidant nutriments that they need.
It is by this revolutionary therapy that these oxygen molecules will be disarmed and destroyed.
In recent years, the advance of research has enabled a better understanding of antioxidants. First there are active molecules actually called antioxidants (carotenes, vitamins E and C, quercetin, lycopene, lutein, sulphurous amino acids) and the micronutrients which constitute the protective enzymes (selenium, zinc). Glutathione, L-cysteine and the pro-anthocyanidin complexes are at last being studied to render certain treatments for serious illnesses more effective.
It is difficult to arrange to have an abundance of these natural protective factors in our daily diet. We must make systematic recourse to well balanced food supplements.
They act in synergy on different cellular sites. If one feels the need, turn to dietary supplementson which your health food shop will advise you. In Votre diététique n°29 feb-march98

In the halls of Dietexpo (98), the presence of Jeannie LONGO was a scoop [...]. Exceptionally, the World Champion had left her bike, her constant companion[..]
1. What, for you, are the basic rules of nutrition? What are the foods of success? Have you called on dietary supplements?2. During competitions, do you follow a special diet?
" In Grenoble and its suburbs we are fortunate to have several organic markets each week. I shop at them. I also know of butchers who sell meat raised according to the standards of organic farming. Yes, I eat meat but with care. I also have the addresses of organic farming for poultry and eggs. Besides, I raise chickens and a goose on organic grain. I complete my natural diet with oral nutritional supplements (vitamins and minerals) according to need and physical effort. I would like to add that I use many essential oils. You must go for quality rather then quantity. Don’t forget the family budget as far as health food is concerned. Take the time to read the labels. Have confidence in dietary supplements...” 3. The French neglect breakfast. What does a top level athlete have?
" In general, I avoid bad fats. I watch the balance over the day and the week. 8 to 15 days before each competition, I become very strict on a number of dietary rules. I am very well informed through health food shops and magazines, as is my husband. The works of Doctor Rueff are among our bedside books."
" It is INDISPENSABLE ! I eat organic bread, oily fruits, cheese (moderately), ham (sometimes), butter... honey, (in moderation!), biscuits, tea (green preferably, to aid elimination.... Of course I balance it. That said, from time to time I take a large bowl of white coffee... arabica and milk from the farm.” In Votre diététique n°29 feb-march98 p26 (interview)
